Flu

Influenza (commonly called flu) is a viral infection that is highly contagious and lasts approximately 5-7 days. Because it is a virus, it is not treatable with antibiotics. Treatment consists of rest, fluids, and fever control with Acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (such as Motrin or Advil). Never use any product with aspirin.

 

Symptoms that you may see with flu include headache, fever which may last 5-7 days, chills, body aches, cough/ congestion, sore throat, and occasionally belly pain, vomiting and diarrhea.

 

In most cases your child will not need to be seen in the office for the flu. However, please observe them closely for signs of complications that would require an office visit. These signs may include:
